Hodgepodge 2

MINCE followed by meat in association game,
RACER by back, is that straps crossed?
BILLY, well, goat, Bob, or club-wrong spelling for Holiday,
ULCER, that one gives pause, preceded by peptic, yet succeeded by . . .? What a pain in the gut is ULCER!

Stumble

BILLY club to the gut of sophistication leaves an
ULCER whose acid eats away at arrogance and
MINCEs the bloated self-delusion of pride:
RACE Run only to stumble paces from the finish.

Whim

LOWLY member of the medical corps
SWORE loudly when an officer called him
CHAFF and ordered him to scarper for the
PAPER, that truly, he only wanted on a whim.

Here doesn’t come the bride

POUNDing out the miles/kilometres, I hit a
CLUMP in the road, bump both knees more than a bit and need a
WINCH to pick me up and place me in the ambulance. Now, instead of walking down the
AISLE I’ll be in a state of somnambulance.

Over the Last Fence

CLUMPs of dirt! Call this a yard?
POUND is barren patch,: narrow kennels, narrow
AISLEs. A twitchy border collie is evolving, starting to invent:
WINCH to get everybody over the last fence and outta here.

Might he Forgive

CHAFF into the troughs–he’d be happy to have a portion.
LOWLY station, it was always his, but he was proud, blind to self,
SWORE to make his own way, live by his own lights.
PAPER scraps are a welcome find: time to write his father. Might he forgive?
