HEARD my
NAVEL calling. It doesn’t do this often but sometimes as I
LABOR I hear it squirm and wriggle and writhe then
TAPER off.
Month: July 2022
Silent Descent
TAPER in hand, descending to the
NAVEL of the catacombs, where none
HEARD the Amontillado casks moved or the
LABOR of masonry finishing.

Omphalos
LABOR of stone smiths, focal point of Delphi’s circling hills,
TAPERing jagged lines to curves by chip and flake,
HEARD are mallets’ thwacks and ringing sounds of rock,
NAVEL stone emerges, omphalos of the world.

Pay up
MANGY cat, by the spicy
SUMAC, pay your equal
TITHEs of nine lives, each a
REMIT of the sequel.
A Tithe To Beauty
REMIT: to pause–linger on the beautiful,
MANGY day-to-day lifted up in the savoring.
SUMAC, hold this moment by scent and blossom,
TITHE your loveliness to my hectic life!
Bill Collectors
TITHE, just a tithe, of the
MANGY, battered envelopes with demands to
REMIT payment forthwith spread like
SUMAC rash across sensitive skin.

Dissomnabulance
SONAR from a swooping, silent
MIDGE sees a sure bet in my
FURRY skin, sets a scheme to
WRACK my sweet and simple, serene somnambulance.
Pests
MIDGE impacts and bites like
SONAR pings, leaving the skin a
WRACK and ruin, wishing for a
FURRY layer of protection.
