The Man with the Straw Hat

TRAIN platform stifles under air’s hot blanket,
LINEN suited man fans face with hat’s straw brim.
BURST of noise as engine arrives and brakes. Now
SWEEPs down from carriage a girl, runs and jumps into his arms shouting Grandpa! into the perfect day.

Use and Discard

CRIED havoc for Empire, future dogs of war slipped loose,
MACRO level unseen, supremacy’s haughty
ARMOR blocking sight beyond the now. So:
SHEIKs wooed, discarded like engine parts for moments of ambition, no true destination in view.

Broken Light, Broken Walls

#1:

AGATE ore now polished and set in
METAL for each facet to
MODEL the sun whose light it refracts in a
PANIC of colors and brightnesses.

#2:

MACRO movements and MICRO schemings,
ARMOR and men positioned to defend the
SHEIK and his dominion––until the sentry
CRIED, “I yield!”

Known to a mind departed

VINYL hoard, worn and crackly, songs of generations past,
DOWDY house’s ornament slipped through time to dated,
STEINway unplayed, yellowed sheets mid score on stand,
PANELed library guarding books known to a mind departed.
